WaveTrax™ is a patented dual-rudder steering system specifically designed for PWC. It was originally invented in 1991 as an aftermarket handling performance product to be easily retrofitted onto existing PWC at a low cost. One benefit of this design is that steering and braking control remain even after the throttle was released. This off-throttle steering ability turns out to be useful in preventing PWC accidents.

WaveTrax has been tested by many PWC manufacturers, for the US Coast Guard under two separate grants, was featured on Inside Edition, was evaluated by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) PWC Committee and tested by Underwriters Laboratories (UL). WaveTrax testing has also been featured in court to demonstrate the capabilities of collision avoidance technologies in preventing PWC accidents. WaveTrax has been available for sale since 1992.

WaveTrax was originally developed for stand-up PWC with two available rudder styles, BeachTrax™ for the recreational rider and SurfTrax™ for the extreme rider. It turns out that the larger SurfTrax rudders are well suited for larger PWC and are effective on many sit-down models. Both the BeachTrax and SurfTrax rudders were tested in September of 2000 by Underwriters Laboratories under a USCG grant.
